How it works
Laser hair removal is a noninvasive technique that uses highly concentrated light to penetrate hair follicles which inhibits further hair growth. The laser reaches all the way to the blood supply, further than a razor, wax, or epilator can reach. That is what ensures its effectiveness. In order for the laser to find the hair, it must be pigmented. The lighter the hair, the less effective the laser will be.
The reason hair returns and, with repeated treatments, will stay away is because hair grows on a cycle as pictured below. Different hair follicles will be on different phases of growth at any given treatment. The laser is the most effective during the anagen phase, while the hair is still connected to the blood flow. After your first treatment, you will be scheduled for subsequent treatments several weeks later or as decided by yourself and the provider, to catch the hairs that were not in the anagen phase during laser treatment. The goal of repeated treatments is to catch every undesirable hair in the anagen phase and permanently zap it away!
